Ebola: Sierra Leone

The medical team on the right track in isolation tent Sierra Leone

Ebola an obstacle overcome: During 2015, the organization focused its efforts on awareness, prevention and provide primary care to patients affected by the virus, from an isolation center built by the same NGO. These tasks were developed in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone and in alignment with the regulations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

A radio campaign, funded and coordinated by our association and held in different dialects for different ethnic groups in the region of Kambia could understand the message, addressed to raise awareness about the disease. In addition, our association funded a team of 22 local health workers who, under the supervision of two local doctors, visited more than 80 villages to meet with villagers and tribal leaders; These meetings were agreed upon way to ensure a greater influx of people.

Under directives of the government of Sierra Leone, PUBC built an isolation primary care where ebola test was presumably people infected with the virus. Communities were urged to move to the apparently infected Temporary Isolation Center for review people. Three of the revised persons tested positive to tests for Ebola and consequently were hospitalized in isolation until they could be transferred to specialized care centers that the Ministry of Health and Sanitation coordinated jointly with international NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres.
